The Russian occupiers launched a missile attack on Ukraine in the first hour of 2023, with air defences operating in Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast.

Details: Kyiv Oblast Military Administration has reported that air defence is currently operating in Kyiv Oblast.

Air defence forces are also working in the city of Kyiv.

Kyiv City Military Administration reported that a missile had been shot down over the capital.

Preliminary reports indicate that fragments of the destroyed missile damaged a car in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv.

Updated at 01:20. The mayor of Kyiv, Vitalii Klitschko reported that there had been explosions in the Holosiivskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts.

In the Shevchenkivskyi district, a fragment of a missile fell on a Volkswagen car.

According to Klitschko, there are no casualties as a result of the attack on the capital.

Updated at 01:45. Kyiv Oblast Police Chief Andrii Niebytov wrote on Telegram that the large-scale air attack of the Russian forces was continuing, and that in some areas of the oblast, air defence forces had shot down some Russian aerial targets.

Niebytov also reported that the flight of Iranian Shaheds was recorded over Kyiv Oblast.
