If Ukraine brings back one child abducted by the Russians every day, the process will take over 50 years.

Quote: "There are over 19,540 Ukrainian children that were officially confirmed to have been deported. If we bring back one child every day, we’d need 55 years [to bring them all back – ed.]."

Lubinets added that the Ukrainian authorities have many initiatives to bring Ukrainian children back.

"Unfortunately, we do not have many tools to bring back all deported Ukrainian children. But we are looking for new opportunities to do it," Lubinets noted.

Background:

  • Eight Ukrainian children aged between 8 and 18 were brought back to Ukraine from Russia on 6 December.
  • In August, Iryna Vereshchuk, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Ukraine’s Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories, reported that at least 380 children who were deported to the Russian Federation were brought back to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
