Details: Tusk arrived at Kyiv railway station on Monday morning.

Poland's RMF24 noted that the agenda for the visit includes meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

Background:

  • Tusk's visit to the Ukrainian capital had been expected for some time, and it was the topic of a conversation between Zelenskyy and Polish President Andrzej Duda at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The possible date was not disclosed for security reasons.
  • Earlier, Tusk said that for both him and Duda, the situation in Ukraine and at the front remains "the number one topic" relating to Poland's security, and it is important to discuss a number of other matters, including the situation with the protest of Polish hauliers at the border.
  • Donald Tusk said that he would not allow anyone in his government to base their positions on anti-Ukrainian sentiment. Last week, the hauliers, who had been blocking several border crossing points since November, agreed to suspend the blockade until March after reaching an agreement with the Polish authorities.
