Quote: "The people know that this would be bad not only for Europe, the Ukrainian people and Ukraine’s sovereignty but for the world as well…We will not let the Russian bear, which eats even when it’s not hungry, ruin this sovereign nation."

Democrat Jason Crow stated that the goal of the visit is to send a signal that the US supports Ukraine.

"We support Ukraine not only because we understand that the protection of freedom and democracy worldwide is an American value but also because it is the national interest of the US. With less than 5% of our annual defence budget we helped Ukraine facilitate a stable and flourishing Europe. We helped Ukraine kill half of the Russian army. We helped Ukraine protect our allies in NATO," he stressed.

"Investments and support by the American people in this fight, in these efforts is what we have proudly done, and I hope that we will continue doing this," Democrat Abigail Spanberger added.

A bipartisan delegation of the Congress arrived in Kyiv on 9 February in the afternoon. It comprises five people, most of them members of the intelligence committee.

Background: On 8 February the US Senate took a step towards approving the aid package for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. Yet the chances of it being approved in the Chamber of Representatives remain uncertain.
