Orbán also reiterated his previous statement that during Trump's presidency, there was peace in the Middle East and Ukraine.

He claimed that Trump "offered respect in the world, thereby creating conditions for peace".

Orbán also said he hoped that Trump's return to the White House would invigorate bilateral trade relations.

Following their meeting at Trump's estate in Florida, Orbán and Trump planned to attend a concert, reported Havasi Bertalan, the Hungarian prime minister’s spokesperson.

Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Péter Szijjártó, was also present at the meeting.

Background:

  • Orbán held a meeting with Trump in Florida. They discussed a "wide range of issues affecting Hungary and the United States, including the paramount importance of strong and secure borders to protect the sovereignty of each country".
  • Orbán is known to have participated in several pro-Trump events in previous years and has openly advocated for his re-election as president. He has stated, among other things, that "if Trump were president, the war would not have started" and that Trump’s return would "bring peace". Trump has praised Orbán in response.
