A video from surveillance cameras at the RoseMarine restaurant in the city of Kryvyi Rih has been released. The Russians claimed that "85 NATO officers were killed" in this restaurant by an Iskander-M missile on 4 April.

Source: Major Dmytro Lykhovii, spokesperson for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on Facebook

Details: The video, featured in a report by the French channel France 24, shows several visitors at the RoseMarine restaurant (its former name is Magellan). There are no military personnel either inside or outside the restaurant. The footage also reveals that the restaurant suffered damage but was not "destroyed", as claimed by Russian propaganda.

Quote from Lykhovii: "Russia lied saying there were '85 NATO officers' in the restaurant in Kryvyi Rih, which was 'targeted' by an 'Iskander-M'. It lied saying the missile was equipped with a high-explosive, not cluster, warhead. It lied saying the restaurant was actually destroyed, and that is why Ukraine is not showing it, while children and adults are merely 'collateral damage'.

Russia lied, is lying, and will keep lying as long as it exists in its current form.

Here is the video from the surveillance cameras of the RoseMarine restaurant (formerly Magellan) at the moment the missile struck the residential area in Kryvyi Rih, near a children's playground.

There are no military personnel, no NATO, no high-explosives, only flying debris, and the restaurant is still standing. Outside, 70-100 meters from the restaurant, 20 civilians were killed, including 9 children."

Details: Russian propaganda claims were also refuted by Colonel Yurii Ihnat, spokesperson for Ukraine’s Air Forces.

"Some Russian media claim a high-precision strike destroyed the restaurant with foreign military personnel inside, while others claim our [Ukrainian] air defence forces are killing civilians... Our anti-aircraft missiles either destroy enemy targets or self-destruct in the air if they miss their target!" emphasised Ihnat.

Ihnat added that Ukraine critically lacks systems capable of intercepting ballistic missiles. In public speeches, the country's military-political leadership continually urges its partners to reinforce Ukraine's air defence with Patriot systems, the officer noted.

Background:

  • On the evening of 4 April, Russian troops launched a ballistic missile strike on a residential area of Kryvyi Rih, killing 20 people, including 9 children. Over 60 others were injured. As of the morning of 7 April, 33 residents of Kryvyi Rih who were injured in the Russian ballistic missile attack on the city on 4 April remain in hospital; 18 adults and 2 children are in a serious condition.
  • An investigative project by Russian agency Nastoyashchee Vremya (Current Time) and Radio Liberty’s Russian Service revealed that on 4 April, the RoseMarine restaurant hosted the Golden Snitch Beauty Business Forum, organised by the Union of Business of Kryvyi Rih. The event was announced on social media on 24 February.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticised the world’s insufficient response to Russian strikes. "The number of air attacks is increasing. This is how Russia reveals its true intentions – to continue the terror for as long as the world allows it," he emphasised.
