Details: The prosecutor's office claimed that Yale's activities threaten the Russian Federation's national security and sovereignty. In a statement, it also said that the universityʼs "activities are directed at the violation of the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation, the international blockade of the country and the undermining of its economic foundations".

Under Russian law, an institution that is blacklisted as an undesirable organisation is subject to a complete ban on all activities in the Russian Federation. Anyone who cooperates with Yale University or participates in its projects risks up to six years in prison.

The prosecutor's office specifically mentioned the Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs, which the Russians say trains "opposition leaders of foreign countries".

The statement claims that some Russian graduates of this programme have joined the Anti-Corruption Foundation established by Alexei Navalny, who died in a Russian penal colony in 2024. According to the prosecutor's office, these graduates "used the knowledge and technologies they acquired at the school to escalate protest activity in the Russian Federation".
