Quote: "As Russia shows no sign of seeking peace – continuing frontline attacks and air terror against Ukrainian cities – Ukraine needs rapid support to protect civilians, hold the line, and move towards peace."
Background:
- In early August, the United States and NATO launched the PURL mechanism to provide military aid to Ukraine, which envisages funding through contributions from other Alliance members.
- Since then, European states have pledged around US$2 billion for this mechanism. NATO allies hope to provide Ukraine with weapons worth US$10 billion through this approach.
- In early September, Estonian President Alar Karis said that Estonia will join the PURL initiative but did not specify the amount of the contribution.
