Quote: "This is a clear attempt to leave Ukrainians without electricity and heat during the autumn-winter period. The Russians have not abandoned their plan to plunge Ukraine into darkness ahead of the new heating season."

More details: Andarak added that escalating Russian attacks have increased the need for international support, particularly physical protection and air defence systems, additional gas supplies and energy equipment for repairs and recovery.

He called on Ukraine's partners to maintain support and impose tougher sanctions on Russia, noting that earlier international aid had enabled Ukraine to withstand three harsh winters and carry out swift repairs.

Representatives of G7+ assured Ukraine of their continued support.

For reference: The G7+ Energy Coordination Group in Ukraine was established in November 2022 to coordinate and mobilise donors to support the country, particularly in repairing and protecting its energy infrastructure. Its members are Bulgaria, Canada, Czechia, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Sweden, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, the United States, the European Union, the Energy Community Secretariat, the World Bank Group, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the United Nations Development Programme.

Background: On 3 October, Russia carried out its heaviest attack on Ukraine's gas production facilities since the full-scale invasion began.
