Ministry of Energy outlines impact of latest Russian attacks on Ukraine's power system

A large part of the city of Zaporizhzhia and the Zaporizhzhia district has been left without power, and the situation remains difficult in Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts as a result of Russian attacks on the night of 4-5 October.

Quote: "As a result of a combined strike, equipment belonging to Zaporizhzhiaoblenergo [the regional power distribution company – ed.] was damaged, causing a power outage that affected a significant number of consumers in the city of Zaporizhzhzia and the Zaporizhzhia district."

Details: The situation also remains challenging in Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts, where Russian forces struck again.

"Scheduled hourly power outages are still in place. Power engineers are working to reduce the restrictions," the ministry said.

Emergency repair work is ongoing.

Background: Russia launched more than 50 missiles and around 500 attack drones against Ukraine on the night of 4-5 October, targeting Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, Odesa and Kirovohrad oblasts.
