Quote: "What will happen with the power supply? It is very hard for me to say today. We will be prepared for every possible challenge. We work on this every day. We will defend. We will fight.
We will gradually increase production of everything so that they will also feel what we feel."
Details: Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine does not target the civilian population but responds to Russian attacks by striking military and energy facilities that power Russia's war machine.
Quote: "I therefore believe Ukraine is making absolutely fair progress. We would be glad not to have to do this, we would be glad if there were no war, but the Russians do not want it [to end]… yet. And this war can only be stopped with pressure."
Background:
- Zelenskyy said that Russia would do everything to prevent Ukraine from producing its own gas. Zelenskyy said the goal was to ensure sufficient funds for gas imports so that people would have access to energy, adding that the government understands the scale of financing required and believes it would be ready to meet the challenge.
- Russian forces destroyed two transformer substations that supply the city of Kharkiv. Mayor Ihor Terekhov said that the coming winter will be the hardest for the city since the start of the full-scale war.
- On the night of 4-5 October, Russia launched a large-scale combined attack on Ukraine's gas infrastructure.
- Naftogaz Group, Ukraine's largest national oil and gas company, is planning to open additional credit lines in case of a need for rapid imports due to Russian attacks.
