President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that in 2026, the volume of artillery-round production in Ukraine and the European Union will reach a level comparable to Russian production.

Details: Nevertheless, Zelenskyy believes that, over time, the EU and Ukraine can gain the upper hand in artillery.
"In 2026, we, together with the European Union, will reach a quantity of artillery-round production equal to that of the Russian Federation. So, if our partners speed up their production a little, in time, we could be stronger than Russia in terms of artillery. This is an important track," he said.
Zelenskyy also noted that there is currently a surplus of artillery systems being produced in Ukraine.
"But there is another issue – the question of the 155mm calibre. In other words, even if you have enough systems, you cannot replace some troops' old Soviet guns and give them the new pieces because there aren't yet enough 155mm rounds for that number. Although without doubt, we are on the right track: there will be enough systems and the army will move to the 155mm calibre," Zelenskyy explained.
The Ukrainian leader said the question is also about simultaneously having a sufficient quantity of shells. Zelenskyy said partners are helping Ukraine with this.
Background: Zelenskyy recently also said that Ukraine has managed to establish domestic artillery production with record speed and quality. He noted that production of the Bohdana self-propelled artillery system has reached 40 units per month, and added that last year, Ukraine manufactured and delivered 2.4 million mortar bombs and artillery shells of various calibres to the front.
