Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that Russian leader Vladimir Putin personally fears a ceasefire, as returning to full-scale war afterwards would be too difficult for the Kremlin.

Quote: "It is not easy for them to move from a full-scale war to a ceasefire and then back to a full-scale war again. It is difficult economically, difficult with society, difficult to [make] the world [accept it – ed.]. And certainly difficult with those countries that still shake Putin's hand today. That is why, for now, he chooses war."

Details: Zelenskyy stressed that a ceasefire is possible but requires greater pressure on Russia.

Quote: "Pressure will work when they lose more from the war than they would under other scenarios. Our long-range strikes, strong sanctions, holding our ground on the battlefield, defending ourselves – and, of course, supporting peace initiatives because it is the right thing to do – all this will work."

Background: Zelenskyy has said that Ukraine will nominate US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize if he succeeds in stopping Russia's military actions against Ukraine.
