In spring 2025, the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) warned Bohdan Krotevych, former chief of staff of the 12th Azov Special Purpose Brigade, that Russia was planning an attempt on his life.

Quote: "I don't remember exactly when it was, somewhere between March and April. I was informed that I am on the FSB's assassination list.

I was slightly flattered because I think if Russia adds you to a kill list, it means you've done something right in this life.

On the other hand, it's not exactly pleasant, but it happens. Nothing terrible. It's a war, and we're at war."

Details: Krotevych said that acquaintances called to tell him about the Russian plans: "At first, I thought it was just a pretext for the SSU to keep an eye on me – like, they'd say: 'You're on the list, so if you see people around, it's our surveillance'.

But then other people who are also on the list called me and said they'd seen my name there".

According to Krotevych, this list was passed to Ukraine by Western partners.

He was later invited by SSU operatives, who gave him a protocol outlining what he should and should not do: "They gave me this list of recommendations and just said we'd stay in touch, that's all."
