UK imposes sweeping sanctions on Russian oil

The UK government has announced a new wave of restrictive measures targeting Russian energy exports, describing them as the "strongest sanctions yet" imposed on Russia.

Details: The new sanctions list includes 90 individuals and legal entities, among them Russian oil giants Rosneft and Lukoil, four oil terminals in China, and Indian oil company Nayara Energy Limited.

The UK has also sanctioned 44 tankers belonging to Russia's shadow fleet.

Separately, London has introduced sanctions on eight liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers involved in facilitating Russian exports, as well as a Chinese LNG terminal in the city of Beihai.

Quote: "To further restrict the flow of funds to the Kremlin, the UK has today announced that we will ban imports of oil products refined in third countries from Russian-origin crude oil."

More details: The announcement comes amid calls from the United States for European nations to tighten sanctions on Russia and completely halt the purchase of its energy supplies.
