Details: The General Staff reported that the strike on the Ryazan oil refinery caused explosions and a large fire at the facility. The refinery, owned by the Russian state company Rosneft, is one of the largest in central Russia, with a processing capacity of over 17 million tonnes of oil per year.
The military noted that the plant plays a key role in supplying fuel to Russian military units and the logistics chains of the Russian army. Disabling part of its capacity reduces Russia's ability to conduct combat operations.
In addition, Ukrainian attack drones hit an ammunition depot near the settlement of Valuyki in Belgorod Oblast.
The General Staff reported that the depot had been destroyed. Explosions and detonation of ammunition were recorded at the site.
The military emphasised that operations targeting Russian military infrastructure continue as part of measures aimed at stopping Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine.
Background:
- Russia's Defence Ministry earlier claimed that Ukrainian drones carried out a large-scale attack on 10 Russian regions, with an oil refinery in Ryazan Oblast among the targets.
- In August, Reuters reported that the Ryazan oil refinery lost half of its capacity after an attack by Ukrainian drones.
