Russian attack causes power, heating and water outages in Poltava Oblast

Energy facilities in Poltava Oblast have been seriously damaged as a result of a Russian attack on the night of 7-8 November, leaving parts of the oblast without electricity, heating and water supply.

Quote: "The Russians attacked Poltava Oblast, particularly energy facilities. It was a record attack in terms of the number of ballistic missiles. Sadly, there is significant damage, leaving parts of the oblast completely without or facing disruptions in electricity, heating and water supply."
Details: Kohut added that invincibility centres [heated premises stocked with food and power banks to assist residents facing hardships due to power cuts – ed.] have been deployed across the oblast in case of prolonged power cuts.
He said that all relevant services are working at full capacity to improve the situation.
Background:
- On 8 November, Russian forces attacked energy infrastructure facilities in Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Poltava, Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts.
- Russia carried out a large-scale missile and drone attack on gas infrastructure belonging to the Naftogaz Group, Ukraine's largest national oil and gas company, on the night of 7-8 November, with several hits being reported.
- A Russian attack that struck thermal power plants operated by Centrenergo, a major Ukrainian state-owned energy company, on the night of 7-8 November is reported to have been the heaviest since the start of the full-scale invasion. Power generation at the plants has been halted.
- On 8 November, Russia attacked a thermal power plant belonging to DTEK, the largest private energy company in Ukraine.
- Russian strikes left the city of Horishni Plavni in Poltava Oblast without electricity, water and heating, while the city of Kremenchuk also suffered a blackout.
