Details: Speaking to journalists, Trump confirmed that Republicans are working on legislation to increase economic pressure on Russia through its trade partners. According to the US president, he personally proposed the idea.

"As you know, I suggested it, so any country that does business with Russia will be very severely sanctioned," Trump said.

He added that lawmakers are considering including Iran on this list, noting that the decision regarding Tehran may be made during the bill's drafting process.

Background: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Washington has practically reached the limit in imposing new sanctions against Russia, noting that restrictions have been placed on the country's largest oil companies and that the next steps are likely to focus on ensuring compliance with existing sanctions rather than introducing new ones.
