Ten people were killed and 37, including 12 children, injured in a Russian strike on residential areas in the city of Ternopil on the morning of 19 November.

Quote: "In Ternopil… two nine-storey residential buildings have been damaged. One caught fire, while the other suffered destruction from the second to the eighth floor. As of 10:00, 10 people were killed and 37 injured, including 12 children. Emergency workers are continuing to evacuate people from blocked apartments. Some people are still trapped under the rubble."

Details: Klymenko said that Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Ternopil oblasts had all come under the large-scale Russian strike. Approximately 500 emergency workers and over 100 appliances are currently deployed across nine locations.

Klymenko said invincibility centres, mobile kitchens and tents have been set up on site, where those affected can file statements and request assistance. [Invincibility centres are heated premises stocked with food and power banks to assist residents facing hardships due to power cuts – ed.]

"The police may restrict access to damaged buildings – please follow the rules in place. This is solely to ensure people's safety and to protect property," Klymenko noted.

Background:

  • On the morning of 19 November, Russia attacked Ukraine with drones and missiles. Explosions were heard in Khmelnytskyi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne, Lviv and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts.
  • The same attack destroyed an apartment block in the city of Ternopil. Media reports indicate that two people are known to have been killed.
  • A large-scale fire has broken out in Lviv due to a Russian strike on the morning of 19 November. An energy facility, a woodworking business and a warehouse have been damaged in the city.
  • Three people, including two children, have been injured in a combined Russian strike on Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast on the morning of 19 November.
  • President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later reported that nine people had been killed and dozens injured in Russia's large-scale combined strike on Ukraine on the night of 18-19 November and the morning of 19 November. Russia launched over 470 attack UAVs and 48 missiles of various types to strike Ukraine.
