"And only President Trump and the United States have sufficient power to make this war come to an end," he added.

Zelenskyy also said that during their meeting in Ankara, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan "proposed conversation formats, which I supported, and it is important for us that Türkiye is ready to provide the necessary platform".

Quote from Zelenskyy: "We are also ready to work in any other meaningful formats that could yield results. But the most important factor for stopping the bloodshed and achieving lasting peace is that we work in close coordination with all partners, and that American leadership remains effective, strong, and brings us closer to a peace that endures and ensures security for the people."

Background:

  • The Financial Times reported that the new 28-point US "peace plan" to end the war in Ukraine envisages, among other things, handing all of Donbas to Russia, cutting the size of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in half and recognising Russian as a state language.
  • Axios reported that the 28-point plan had been drawn up by US envoy Steve Witkoff and Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).
  • The White House has said it is hopeful of agreeing a framework to end the Russo-Ukrainian war by the end of the month.
