Starmer gives optimistic assessment of "peace deal" talks between Ukraine and Russia

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has given an optimistic assessment of the latest efforts to reach a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia during a virtual meeting of the Coalition of the Willing on 25 November.

Details: Starmer said that talks on the US peace proposals have made progress, and "I welcome some of the developments that have now come forward".
He added that Ukraine had proposed some constructive changes to the US draft, which have been supported by European national security advisers.
Quote: "I do think we are moving in a positive direction and indications today that in large part the majority of the text, Volodymyr [Zelenskyy – ed.] is indicating, can be accepted."
More details: French President Emmanuel Macron said there is "finally a chance to make real progress toward a good peace" between Ukraine and Russia.
Background:
- The United States and Ukraine developed a new 19-point peace agreement during the Geneva talks but left the most politically sensitive issues for the two presidents to decide.
- White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that the United States has made "tremendous progress" towards reaching a "peace deal" between Ukraine and Russia, but "there are a few delicate, but not insurmountable, details that must be sorted out".
