European Council president says EU continues to pressure Russia and support Ukraine

The European Union will continue to put pressure on Russia and support Ukraine, European Council President António Costa emphasised after a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing.

Details: Costa said on 25 November that Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had shared with him their assessment of the current peace process.

Background:

• It was reported earlier that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has given an optimistic assessment of the latest efforts to reach a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia during a virtual meeting of the Coalition of the Willing on 25 November.
• French President Emmanuel Macron said that the Coalition of the Willing agreed to push ahead in the coming days with work on two priorities: frozen Russian assets and security guarantees for Ukraine.
