Two killed and 23 injured in Russian attacks on three Ukrainian oblasts over past day – photos

Russian attacks on 8 December on Kherson, Sumy and Zaporizhzhia oblasts have killed two people and injured another 23.

Details: In Kherson Oblast, two people were killed and five injured in Russian strikes over the past day.

Dozens of settlements came under drone attacks, airstrikes and artillery fire, including Beryslav, Antonivka, Kizomys, Komyshany, Zmiivka, Kozatske, Mykilske, Osokorivka, Stanislav, Shyroka Balka and the city of Kherson.

Russian forces struck residential areas as well as critical and social infrastructure. The Russians damaged three apartment blocks, eight houses, a farm, a mobile phone mast, a water tower, a gas pipeline and several vehicles.

In Sumy Oblast, the Russians carried out 105 attacks on 33 settlements. Two civilians – a 40-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman – were injured.

In the Sumy hromada, Russian FPV drones and attack UAVs damaged critical infrastructure, a house, two shopfronts, a non-residential building, a car and a power transmission line. [A hromada is an administrative unit designating a village, several villages, or a town, and their adjacent territories – ed.]

In the Richky community, Russian drones struck two houses and a warehouse. Police investigative teams and bomb disposal experts documented the aftermath and collected explosive ordnance.

In Zaporizhzhia Oblast, 16 people were injured in Russian attacks. Over the past day, the Russians launched 642 strikes on 26 settlements.

Russian forces carried out 13 airstrikes on the cities of Zaporizhzhia and Vilniansk and several frontline hromadas.

A total of 407 drones of various types – mostly FPVs – targeted Zaporizhzhia, nearby villages and frontline settlements from Huliaipole to Mala Tokmachka. There were also four attacks from multiple-launch rocket systems and 218 artillery strikes on towns and villages across the region.

Police received around 130 reports of damaged homes, vehicles and infrastructure facilities.

Background:

  • On the evening of 8 December, Oleh Hryhorov, Head of Sumy Oblast Military Administration, reported that the Russians had launched a large-scale strike on Sumy's energy infrastructure.
  • It was also previously reported that 15 people had been injured – four of them seriously – in Russian guided aerial bomb attacks on Zaporizhzhia and Vilniansk on 8 December.
