Zelenskyy responds to Trump's call for presidential elections in Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has commented on US President Donald Trump's latest remark that it is time for Ukraine to hold presidential elections.

Details: Asked to respond to Trump's latest interview with Politico, in which he said "it's time" for presidential elections in Ukraine, Zelenskyy said: "I am ready for ever."

Background:

• Following Trump's comments, the EU said that Zelenskyy is Ukraine's democratically elected president and that the next presidential election should be held when conditions allow.
• In February, during remarks to journalists at Mar-a-Lago, Trump said he supported Russia's demands for Ukraine to hold a presidential election.
• The US president also said that he was uncomfortable saying it, but the approval rating of the Ukrainian leader had supposedly fallen to 4%.
