"I am glad to confirm that we have fulfilled this goal today," he added.

Corrected: The previous version of this article stated that it was Czech President Petr Pavel who reported on this.

Background:

  • Earlier, Pavel said that Czechia should continue to support Ukraine not only for ideological reasons but also for practical ones.
  • He made this statement amid discussions by parties forming the future governing coalition about the need to review Czech support for Ukraine.
  • Tomio Okamura, the Speaker of the Czech Chamber of Deputies and leader of the far-right SPD party, said that he supports ending all financial transfers to Ukraine as well as the Czech initiative to supply ammunition.
  • Czech citizens largely support continued humanitarian aid to Ukraine, while their attitude towards supporting refugees and supplying weapons to Kyiv is more mixed.
