Details: UK intelligence said that Russian ground forces continue attempts to push into Siversk, taking advantage of foggy weather, and may have taken up positions in the city centre.
The assessment has stressed that Ukrainian forces continue to fight for the western districts of the city, so Russian claims of having "full control" of Siversk are not accurate.
Quote: "Siversk has long been an objective for Russian forces, which have mounted several failed assaults on the town. Siversk has screened the larger remaining Ukrainian-held Donetsk cities of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk."
More details: The assessment has also stated that Ukraine's defence forces continue to retain a limited ability to carry out small raids into the northern part of Pokrovsk.
UK intelligence has emphasised that Russian forces continue to suffer heavy losses in intense operations along the front line and have probably suffered approximately 395,000 casualties, killed and wounded, in 2025.
Background:
- UK Defence Intelligence earlier described how Russia has been trying to "Russify" people in territory it has illegally occupied after attacking Ukraine.
- UK Defence Intelligence also said that it believes Ukraine has retained the ability to conduct effective long-range strikes on Russian targets, which still pose a challenge for Russian air defences.
