Details: The submarine was struck while in the port of Novorossiysk, Russia.
Sub Sea Baby drones hit a Russian Project 636.3 Varshavyanka-class submarine (NATO designation: Kilo). The operation was carried out by fighters from the SSU's 13th Main Directorate of Military Counterintelligence, in coordination with the Ukrainian Navy.
Quote: "An explosion caused critical damage to the submarine, putting it effectively out of action. The submarine carried four launchers for Kalibr cruise missiles, which the enemy uses to strike Ukrainian territory."
More details: The Security Service said the Varshavyanka submarine is worth about US$400 million, although sanctions may have driven the cost up to US$500 million. Its hull can absorb sound, helping it evade sonar detection.
Quote: "The damaged submarine was forced to remain in Novorossiysk due to successful special operations by Sea Baby uncrewed surface vessels, which have pushed Russian warships and submarines out of Sevastopol Bay in temporarily occupied Crimea."
