US President Donald Trump held a phone call with European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday 15 December following the talks in Berlin.

Details: Trump is confident that participants in the peace process have moved closer to an agreement to end the war in Ukraine.

Details: Trump discussed the situation by phone with his Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner, who met with Zelenskyy and European leaders in Berlin.

Quote: "We had a very good conversation an hour ago with the European leaders involving the war with Russia and Ukraine. We had a very good discussion, things are seemingly going well but we've been saying that for a long time."

Details: Trump also noted that his team has had many conversations with Putin. Meanwhile, he emphasised that his representatives are receiving significant support from European leaders who want to end the war.

According to the US president, Russia also supposedly wants to end the war in Ukraine, but: "the problem is, they all want to get it ended and then all of a sudden they won't."

Background: German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, following the Berlin talks, said that there is a real chance for a ceasefire in the Russian war against Ukraine, perhaps for the first time since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
