We heard further signals from Moscow that they are preparing next year as year of war – Zelenskyy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on 17 December that signals have been received from Russia indicating that it plans to continue fighting next year.

Quote: "Today, we heard further signals from Moscow that they are preparing next year as a year of war. And these signals are not only for us. It is important that partners see this. And it is important that they not only see it, but also respond – in particular, partners in the United States of America, who often say that Russia supposedly wants to end the war. But a completely different rhetoric and different signals are coming from Russia – including official instructions to their army."

Details: Zelenskyy noted that with such an attitude, the Russians will undermine diplomacy, trying through various diplomatic wordings and pressure over one point or another in documents simply to cover up their desire to destroy Ukraine.

Quote: "There must be real protection from this Russian story of madness, and now we will continue working with all partners to ensure that such protection truly exists. We need security decisions, we need financial decisions, including on Russian assets, and we need political decisions.

We need all our partners to have courage to see the truth, recognise the truth and act accordingly. I want to thank everyone who supports Ukraine in exactly this way and works to achieve security."

Background: Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin stated that Russia supposedly prefers a diplomatic settlement to the war; however, if Ukraine and its partners refuse what he called a "substantive dialogue", Moscow is ready to continue seizing territory by military means.
