On 17 December, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law governing the process by which parliamentary committees will be made open to the media and civic activists.

Details: Committee meetings must now be streamed online and video recordings must be published in open access within 24 hours of the meeting ending.

The law also requires the agenda to be published at least 24 hours before a meeting starts.

Quote from Yurchyshyn: "Journalists and members of the public will once again be able to attend committee meetings.

This effectively brings the work of the parliament back to the transparency standards that were in place prior to Covid and security restrictions. The same rules will also apply to local authorities."

Background: On 14 January, the Verkhovna Rada voted in favour of bill No. 11321, which provides for parliamentary committee meetings to be made open to journalists, media workers and representatives of civic organisations.
