Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is convinced that a video address he made from Kupiansk was important for Ukraine's partners, as it once again demonstrated the falsehoods of Russian leader Vladimir Putin regarding newly occupied territories.

Details: Zelenskyy was asked whether Ukraine's partners had seen his address from Kupiansk and whether they had understood that Russian leader Vladimir Putin was lying about the current situation on the front lines.

Quote from Zelenskyy: "It had a very strong impact. Everyone highly appreciated our soldiers for holding Kupiansk. And the fact that I was there personally put an end to the claim that Putin is once again telling the truth about newly occupied territories – he is lying. This influenced my conversations with the Americans. It had a very strong impact on my talks with Europeans."

  • It was reported on 12 December that Ukraine's defence forces had carried out a successful counterattack near the city of Kupiansk and encircled a Russian grouping in the city.
  • Since October, Russian occupation forces have repeatedly claimed that they have taken Kupiansk in Kharkiv Oblast, while Ukrainian troops say they are continuing to hold the city.
  • On 2 December, Putin publicly "invited" foreign journalists, including Ukrainian ones, to visit Pokrovsk and Kupiansk to demonstrate Russia's supposed control over these cities.
