Details: The leaders of Belgium and Ukraine discussed financial support for Ukraine and agreed on its urgency.
"As for the Belgian prime minister, I think that, first of all, we had a good conversation. We understand each other," Zelenskyy said.
He stressed that he understands the risks mentioned by Bart De Wever.
"But we are at war. In my view, we are facing greater risks," the Ukrainian president added.
Quote: "What is important is the signal coming from him that, in any case, we must resolve the issue of support today or in these days so that Ukraine is not left without financial assistance."
Background:
- Zelenskyy also said he supports the position of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk that the military threat to Europe will increase if support for Ukraine is reduced.
- Earlier, it became known that diplomats from European Union member states had reached a tentative agreement on using frozen Russian assets to provide Ukraine with a reparations loan in 2026-2027, but the final decision is to be taken by EU leaders at the European Council meeting.
- European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU summit must ultimately decide which funding option for Ukraine to choose.
