Orbán: Ukraine's collapse would be a disaster for Hungary
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has said Hungary has no interest in Ukraine's collapse, warning that such an outcome would pose a serious problem for his country.
Source: Orbán in a speech, excerpts published on X (Twitter), as reported by European Pravda
Details: In his post, Orbán wrote that Ukraine's fall "would be a disaster for Hungary".
"Ukraine's collapse would be a serious problem for Hungary. So it is not only not in Hungary's interest for Ukraine to collapse, but we must do a great deal to prevent that from happening," the Hungarian prime minister said in his speech.
He wrote that stability in the neighbouring country is important for Hungary, which supplies Ukraine with electricity and gas.
"Meanwhile, the war weakens Ukraine day by day. Peace is the only thing that can strengthen it. Anyone who truly stands with Ukraine must want peace, and must want it now," Orbán tweeted.
Background:
- Orbán earlier called the EU loan to Ukraine "an extremely bad decision" and wasted money.
- He also said "it's not clear who attacked whom" regarding Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
- Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reminded Orbán of Hungary's alliance with the Nazis during the Second World War.
