The European Commission has carried out one of its biggest logistics operations by delivering a full set of equipment for a thermal power plant from Lithuania to Ukraine.

Quote: "The operation, which spanned 11 months, comprised 149 separate shipments with a total weight of 2,399 tonnes. It included 40 oversized consignments, among them exceptionally heavy transformers and stators weighing approximately 172 tonnes each."

Details: Ukraine's Ministry of Energy said that support from the Polish Government Agency for Strategic Reserves played a key role in facilitating the complex transportation of these components.

Quote: "The delivered equipment enabled emergency repair works in several regions of Ukraine, where energy infrastructure had been severely damaged by Russian attacks."

More details: The ministry added that, since February 2022, overall EU support for Ukraine's energy sector has included the delivery of 9,500 generators and 7,200 transformers through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM).

Background: On the night of 21-22 December, Russia attacked energy facilities in five oblasts, causing power cuts.
