President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told journalists on Tuesday 23 December that Ukraine would submit a 20-point peace agreement either for ratification by parliament or to a nationwide referendum, and may also decide to hold elections in the country at the same time as the referendum.

Quote from Zelenskyy: "Ukraine will submit this agreement for ratification by parliament and/or hold a nationwide referendum for approval in a 'yes' or 'no' format. Ukraine may decide to hold elections simultaneously with the referendum."

Details: Zelenskyy also said that the security guarantees would come into force only after the agreement is fully ratified or approved through a referendum.

Background:

  • Earlier, the Central Election Commission resumed the operation of the State Register of Voters for the first time since the start of the full-scale invasion.
  • Zelenskyy also said that draft versions of several documents had been prepared following briefings on the results of meetings with the US team from Rustem Umierov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council, and Andrii Hnatov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
