President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Ukraine has planned a meeting with US President Donald Trump in the near future.

Details: Zelenskyy said that Rustem Umierov, National Security and Defence Council Secretary, had reported to him on his latest contacts with the American side.

Background:
- On 24 December, the president of Ukraine revealed for the first time the contents of a 20-point "peace plan" agreed with the US. He also emphasised that Ukraine is not accepting a demand to renounce NATO membership that had been in the Trump team's initial 28-point plan.
- Signals have come from Moscow that Russia will demand significant changes to the draft "peace plan" agreed between Ukraine and the US.
- On 25 December, Zelenskyy held a phone call with members of the US President's team, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, after which he said there were "good ideas for a lasting peace".
