Russian attack damages education ministry building and student accommodation in Kyiv – photo

One of the buildings of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and a student accommodation at the state-owned Kyiv Aviation Institute (formerly the National Aviation University) have been damaged in Russia's large-scale attack on Kyiv on 27 December.

Details: Oksen Lisovyi shared images of the damaged premises belonging to the ministry. The photos show windows partially blown out and walls damaged.

He said that no staff were injured.

Quote: "We are currently clearing debris and dealing with the aftermath of the attack. We are planning how to adjust our work given temporary restrictions in access to the building."

More details: Tymur Tkachenko has said that Russian forces "cynically struck" a student accommodation at one of the capital's universities at the level of the eighth floor.

Kseniia Semenova confirmed that the strike hit a technical room of the student accommodation. Windows were blown out in rooms, but none of the residents or staff were injured.

Background:

  • Russia launched nearly 500 drones against Ukraine, a significant number of which were Shaheds, as well as 40 missiles, including Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles, on the night of 26-27 December.
  • At least two people have been killed in a Russian attack on Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast.
  • Ukrenergo, Ukraine's state-owned electricity transmission operator, reported earlier that a significant number of consumers in Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast have been left without electricity as a result of another Russian attack; there are also consumers in Chernihiv Oblast who have been disconnected due to the hostilities.
