US confirms it is ready to ratify security guarantees agreement for Ukraine

The US has said that it is ready to submit a document to the Senate for ratification that would set out security guarantees for Ukraine if Russia's full-scale war ends.

Details: US and Ukrainian representatives have already agreed on "most elements" of a bilateral agreement, including the security guarantees Kyiv would receive from the US and Europe.
A senior US official told Axios that the US is ready to send a security guarantees text, based on Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, to the Senate for ratification.

- France has also said that Ukraine's allies have planned to meet in January 2026 to finalise plans for security guarantees once a possible ceasefire is reached.
