A 71-year-old man has been killed and 32 people, including two children, have been injured in Russia's large-scale combined attack on Kyiv on the night of 26 and morning of 27 December.

Details: At 13:35, Kyiv police said that a 71-year-old man had been killed in the Dniprovskyi district. His wife is in hospital in a serious condition.

The number of people injured is 32 people, including two children.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs said that more than 10 apartment buildings, houses and civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged in Kyiv.

In the Darnytskyi district, almost 70 elderly people were rescued from a geriatric care home located at the epicentre of the strike.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that as of 16:09, rescue operations were ongoing in the Dniprovskyi, Darnytskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts of Kyiv. Emergency workers are clearing debris, dismantling unsafe structures and inspecting damaged buildings.

District administration headquarters have been set up at the scene to support local residents. Rapid response rescue teams, municipal services and volunteer organisations are also involved. Heating points have been established, field kitchens are operating on the sites and assistance is being provided to those affected.

Background:

  • On the night of 26-27 December, Russia launched an attack against Ukraine using nearly 500 drones, a significant number of which were Shaheds, as well as 40 missiles, including Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the primary target was Kyiv – energy facilities and civilian infrastructure.
  • Russian strikes killed one person in Kyiv and one in Bila Tserkva.
  • Weapons debris struck a 24-storey building, and an 18-storey and a 10-storey block were on fire in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv on the morning of 27 December.
