Details: The first decision concerns aligning sanctions with the United Kingdom. Restrictions have been imposed on eight individuals and 40 legal entities. They include citizens of Russia, Azerbaijan, Singapore and New Zealand linked to the forced deportation and "re-education" of Ukrainian children as well as to supplying Russia with electronics and dual-use components used to produce missiles and drones that Russia uses to strike Ukrainian cities and hromadas. [A hromada is an administrative unit designating a village, several villages, or a town, and their adjacent territories – ed.]
The list of legal entities includes companies from Russia, Hong Kong, the UAE, Thailand, Türkiye, India and Singapore. The statement says that they help Russia bypass international sanctions and supply industrial machine tools, aircraft equipment, components for Shahed-type drones, computer chips and other microelectronics for Russia's defence industry. Some of the companies are also involved in Russia's energy sector, imports of Russian oil and supporting the operation of the shadow fleet.
In total, Ukraine aligned 14 partners' sanctions packages this year including two packages each from the United States and the United Kingdom, eight from the European Union and one each from Canada and Japan.
The second decision supports proposals submitted by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine (Ukrainian government) and introduces sanctions in line with UN Security Council resolutions and the decisions of the Council of the EU, as well as regulations on the situation in South Sudan.
Sanctions were imposed on eight individuals within South Sudan's military leadership. The statement says that they are implicated not only in continuing hostilities and obstructing peace talks but also in acts of violence including against women and children such as killings, torture, rape, abductions and attacks on hospitals, schools and churches. They include the commander of the armed forces, the head of the Presidential Guard and the chief of the General Staff of South Sudan.
