Russia has attacked gas and energy infrastructure, striking production facilities and a combined heat and power station (CHP) operated by the Naftogaz Group, the state-owned oil and gas company of Ukraine.

Details: Koretskyi said it was clear that the attacks were synchronised with the cold snap and that the Russians were trying to exploit frost and peak demand to knock the system out.

Background:

  • The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine said that as of 15:00 more than 500,000 customers were without power in the city of Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast. In Chernihiv Oblast, more than 22,000 customers were left without electricity.
  • Power engineers have been working to restore electricity supply to about 600,000 customers in the city of Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast.
  • A large-scale air-raid warning was issued across Ukraine on the night of 26-27 December as cruise missiles were detected in the sky.
  • Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that almost a third of the city of Kyiv has been left without heating due to the Russian attack.
  • Weapons debris struck a 24-storey building and an 18-storey and a 10-storey blocks were on fire in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv on the morning of 27 December, Klitschko said.
  • A significant number of consumers in Kyiv City and Kyiv Oblast have been left without electricity as a result of another Russian attack; some consumers in Chernihiv Oblast have also been disconnected due to the hostilities.
