Ukraine's General Staff refutes Putin's claim about "capture" of Huliaipole and Myrnohrad

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine says Russian claims about the capture of Huliaipole in Zaporizhzhia Oblast and Myrnohrad in Donetsk Oblast are false and primarily aimed at foreign partners.

Quote: "The senior political leadership of the aggressor state is once again resorting to spreading fake statements about significant 'successes' of the Russian army on the battlefield. In reality, Kremlin reports about the capture of the cities of Huliaipole and Myrnohrad are not supported by facts.
The situation in Huliaipole in Zaporizhzhia Oblast is difficult, but the defensive operation in the settlement is ongoing. Ukrainian warriors continue active actions to destroy the invaders' infantry groups in the city.
The operational situation in Myrnohrad also remains difficult; however, enemy units, as before, have failed to realise their plans to capture the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad agglomeration, so the weapon of disinformation is being used."
Details: The General Staff stressed that claims about control over half of the city of Kostiantynivka in Donetsk Oblast are also fabricated.
"The defence forces of Ukraine are holding defensive lines and destroying the enemy on the approaches to the settlement. On 26 December, the occupiers attempted an assault and advanced in a column towards Kostiantynivka. As a result of the successful actions of Ukrainian defenders, two enemy tanks equipped for mine clearance were destroyed, and enemy infantry was wiped out by our UAVs," the statement said.
The General Staff recalled that the Russians have previously repeatedly spread false claims about the alleged capture of Kupiansk and Pokrovsk.
Quote: "It is obvious that Russian lies are primarily aimed at foreign partners and have intensified significantly precisely during peace negotiations. However, Russian disinformation will not affect Ukraine's position or further diplomatic work."
Background: On 27 December, Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin claimed that given the pace of the Russian advance, Russia has "zero" interest in the Armed Forces of Ukraine withdrawing from the territories they occupy. Putin said this during a visit he allegedly made to a Russian command post ahead of the meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and the United States regarding the peace plan. TASS reported that Putin was briefed on the alleged Russian occupation of Myrnohrad and Huliaipole, as well as several other settlements.
