US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy have said that working groups from the two countries will continue efforts on a plan to end the war.

Details: The US president said the American working group will include Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and "a few other people".
Zelenskyy, in turn, said the Ukrainian team will continue its work with the participation of National Security and Defence Council Secretary Rustem Umierov, First Deputy Foreign Minister Serhii Kyslytsia and Ukraine's General Staff Chief Andrii Hnatov.
"I hope that really we will have decisions in January, as I said, about all these documents, six documents. And of course, we will continue working on this. So they know what to do," the Ukrainian president added.
Trump then noted that these groups "will also then be working with Russia. Because to work with ourselves doesn't really solve much of a problem".
Asked how long it would take to finalise the outstanding issues, Trump said: "If it went really well, maybe a few weeks, and if it went really poorly, it's not gonna happen […] In a few weeks we will know one way or the other I think. But if it went really well, but it could also go poorly. I mean, you know, we could have something where one item that you're not thinking about is a big item and it breaks it up."
Earlier, both presidents said that negotiations will continue.
"We agreed that our teams will meet in the coming weeks to finalise all discussed matters, and we agreed with President Trump that he will host us, maybe in Washington, in January," Zelenskyy said.
Background:
- On 28 December, Zelenskyy and Trump met in Florida. Afterwards, the two presidents held a video conference with European leaders.
- Zelenskyy said that Ukraine and the US had finalised a number of documents within a peace package.
- However, the issue of Donbas was not resolved during the talks.
