Japan transfers €47.7m to Ukraine for recovery, approves new phase of aid programme

Japan has transferred 8.8 billion Japanese yen (about €47.7 million) to Ukraine under Phase 4 of the Programme for Emergency Recovery and approved the launch of the next stage of grant assistance.

The key outcome of the meeting was the transfer of previously announced grant funds amounting to 8.8 billion Japanese yen, which is about €47.7 million, under Phase 4 of the Programme for Emergency Recovery."
Details: The allocated funds will be directed to humanitarian demining, maintenance of energy infrastructure, rehabilitation of water supply systems and the development of public infrastructure in the regions, as well as projects in public health, safety and education.
The ministry noted that Japan's parliament has also approved an additional budget, enabling the continuation of grant projects under Phase 5 of the Programme for Emergency Recovery and ensuring further technical assistance to Ukraine.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the implementation of joint projects, the work of the JUPITeR platform, and the current status of grant assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Preparations for the second JUPITeR mission and the selection of Japanese companies planning to visit Ukraine in spring next year were also addressed.
The ministry added that priorities for further cooperation include the rebuilding of housing, support for internally displaced persons, development of port infrastructure, transport logistics, energy efficiency and protection of critical infrastructure. Possible joint cultural initiatives in the field of commemoration were also discussed.
