Zelenskyy: Monitoring mission must operate simultaneously with ceasefire

Ukraine insists that a partner-led monitoring mission must begin operating simultaneously with any ceasefire as part of the negotiation process.

Details: According to Zelenskyy, "our number one priority is that a monitoring mission is already in place at the same time as the ceasefire", operating "under the leadership of our partners whom we trust".
Zelenskyy said that such a mission would be able to identify, among other things, Russian "false-flag" operations. "They can do this technically. They have satellites. They have infrastructure. They have all the necessary drone infrastructure for this," he said.
The response to such incidents, the president added, is stipulated in the security guarantees. "As for how to respond to this, that is already the second part of the security guarantees, where point by point it is specified how our partners will respond in the event of a ceasefire violation," Zelenskyy said.
Background:
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing at adviser level is scheduled to take place in Ukraine on 3 January, with a leaders' meeting in France planned for 6 January.
- Zelenskyy commented on remarks by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk suggesting the United States could deploy troops to Ukraine as part of security guarantees after a peace deal is reached.
