Drones attacked Russia's Samara Oblast on the night of 1-2 January. Oil refineries may have been among the potential targets.

Details: Explosions were reported over the city of Novokuybyshevsk in Samara Oblast on the night of 1-2 January. A fire was recorded in one of the districts. Air defence systems reportedly downed several aerial assets.

Local residents said they had been woken by loud explosions at around 01:30, with more than 10 powerful blasts heard in total. Witnesses also reported bright flashes in the sky.

Monitoring channels suggest that two oil refineries may have come under attack: the Novokuybyshevsk refinery and the Kuibyshev refinery.

Background: Exilenova+ reported that drones had attacked Russia's Samara Oblast on the night of 27-28 December, striking the Syzran oil refinery.
