Zelenskyy appoints acting head of Ukraine's Border Guard Service after dismissing its chief

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed Serhii Deineko as head of Ukraine's State Border Guard Service (SBGS) and appointed First Deputy Valerii Vavryniuk as its acting head.

Details: In one decree, Zelenskyy dismissed Deineko from the post, and in another, he appointed Vavryniuk to carry out the duties of acting head of the State Border Guard Service.

Background:

On 2 January, Zelenskyy announced that Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko will soon present candidates to replace Lieutenant General Serhii Deineko as head of Ukraine's State Border Guard Service, while Deineko will remain within the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
On 4 January, Deineko became an advisor to the minister of internal affairs.
Zelenskyy has said he has decided on candidates for the position of head of Ukraine's State Border Guard Service, but has not named them yet.
