President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has removed Serhii Deineko as head of Ukraine's State Border Guard Service and appointed First Deputy Valerii Vavryniuk as its acting head.

Details: In one decree, Zelenskyy removed Deineko from the post, and in another, he appointed Vavryniuk to carry out the duties of acting head of the State Border Guard Service.

Background:
- On 2 January, Zelenskyy announced that Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko would shortly present candidates to replace Lieutenant General Serhii Deineko as head of Ukraine's State Border Guard Service. Deineko will remain within the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
- On 4 January, Deineko became an advisor to the interior minister.
- Zelenskyy has said he has decided on candidates for the position of head of Ukraine's State Border Guard Service, but has not named them yet.
