Four people have been killed in the Russian attack on the city of Kyiv. Disruptions to electricity and water supply have been recorded.

Details: Tkachenko said that a fire had broken out in a residential building between the eighth and ninth floors in the Darnytskyi district.

A fire was also reported at a shopping centre in the Desnianskyi district.

An uninhabited house was damaged in the Dniprovskyi district.

Details: A 12-storey residential building was hit by a drone in the Dniprovskyi district, causing a fire and partial structural damage.

A 24-storey non-residential building was struck in the Pecherskyi district, resulting in damage to the 22nd and 23rd floors and a fire.

As of 02:35, three people were reported to have been killed and six injured, three of whom have been hospitalised.

As of 03:39, the death toll had risen to four, with 10 people injured. Five of those injured have been taken to hospital, while the others received medical treatment at the scene.

Disruptions to electricity and water supply have also been recorded across the city.

Quote from Klitschko: "Critical infrastructure has been damaged in the large-scale enemy attack on the capital. Some areas of the city are experiencing power outages."

Details: Klitschko also confirmed that water supply had been affected due to the damage.

Updated at 04:42. Klitschko stated that four people had been killed in the Russian attack.

Nineteen people have been injured, fourteen of whom have been hospitalised. The remainder received treatment at the scene.

One medic has been killed and four medical workers injured.

Updated at 7:27: The department of National Police of Ukraine in Kyiv Oblast reported that the number of injured had risen to 24. This includes emergency service personnel and three medics who were providing treatment in the Darnytskyi district at the time of a repeat strike.

Background:

  • On the evening of 8 January, explosions were heard in Kyiv. Russia launched drone attacks on the capital. A drone hit the roof of a residential building in the Desnianskyi district.
  • On the evening of 8 January, explosions were heard in Lviv after an air-raid warning was issued. It later emerged that a critical infrastructure facility in Lviv Oblast had been hit.
  • Colonel Yurii Ihnat, Head of the Communications Department of Ukraine's Air Force Command, in a comment to Ukrainska Pravda said that Russia may have launched a strike on Lviv Oblast from the Kapustin Yar testing range in Russia's Astrakhan Oblast, where, according to early reports, the Oreshnik missile system is based.
  • Lviv Mayor Andrii Sadovyi said it is currently unknown whether Russia used an Oreshnik missile in the attack on Lviv Oblast.
