Zelenskyy: Russian Oreshnik hit demonstratively close to EU borders

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that the Russian Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile system also poses a threat to Hungary.
Source: Zelenskyy in his evening address on 9 January, as reported by European Pravda
Details: Zelenskyy said Russia had used the Oreshnik missile in a demonstrative strike that landed close to the EU border.
Quote: "And in terms of using medium-range ballistic missiles, this poses the same challenge for all: Warsaw, Bucharest, Budapest, and many other capitals as well."
Details: Zelenskyy stressed that if the Russians "aren't even bothering to come up with a plausible excuse for using such weapons", then "no personal connections and no rhetoric will protect anyone from this".
He therefore emphasised the need for a system of joint action and collective defence.
Background:
- Zelenskyy said that a clear response from the world is needed, particularly from the United States, after Russia's large-scale strike on 8-9 January in which the Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile was deployed.
- Following the attack, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called on Ukraine's partners to take immediate steps to increase pressure on Moscow.
- It was also reported that Ukraine had informed neighbouring Poland that Russia could deploy the Oreshnik missile system when it launched its large-scale attack on the night of 8-9 January.
