Details: "Today, we are doing everything we can to repair the power grid after another cynical Russian strike," she wrote on Telegram.
"Since yesterday evening, energy facilities in the city of Kryvyi Rih, Kyiv Oblast and the city of Kyiv have sustained significant damage. These were complex strikes involving ballistic missiles," the statement says.
As a result of the work carried out, the supply of electricity and heat has now been restored in the city of Kryvyi Rih as well as in settlements in Kyiv Oblast.
"Regarding the city of Kyiv, the situation remains the most difficult. Electricity supply has now been restored to the vast majority of the right bank of the capital, and planned outage schedules are in effect. Emergency power cuts are being applied in certain areas where repair work is ongoing," Svyrydenko said.
"On most of the left bank, emergency outages are being applied and repair work on electricity supply is in its final stages. By the end of today, a transition to scheduled power cuts is planned," she noted.
Regarding heat supply: repairs are ongoing, but a significant part of the capital currently remains without heat. The services responsible are working – and will continue to work – around the clock to restore heat to people as quickly as possible.
"The government is providing all necessary assistance to complete the repair process as quickly as possible. At the same time, we expect decisive action from the local authorities as the owner of the damaged combined heat and power plants," the prime minister noted.
Given the number of people currently without heat and electricity, the prime minister instructed all the services responsible to ensure the uninterrupted operation of invincibility centres [heated premises stocked with food and power banks to assist residents facing hardships due to power cuts – ed.] and to deploy additional ones as widely as possible.
"This task concerns not only the capital but also other settlements in the country. The government will also mobilse resources from large state-owned companies and banks to provide support for Ukrainians," Svyrydenko wrote.
"I also instructed all the ministries and oblast military administrations responsible to provide proper and regular communication about the current situation. All state bodies and services are working at full stretch to deal with the devastating aftermath of the enemy attacks", she added.
Background:
- Energy companies have restored power to almost 153,000 homes in the capital after the strikes.
- It was previously reported that emergency repair work was ongoing in Kyiv after an overnight large-scale Russian attack. Water supply in the capital has been fully restored.
- Half of Kyiv's apartment buildings – almost 6,000 – were left without heating after critical infrastructure in the capital was damaged in a large-scale Russian attack.
- Utility workers have connected essential facilities – in particular hospitals and maternity hospitals – to mobile boiler houses.
- Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko urged residents to leave the city if they have the option.
- Kyiv City Military Administration said that draining water is a standard technical measure in sub-zero temperatures and does not imply an extended period with no heating.
